Dad and I went to watch Dinesh D’Souza’s new movie, America, Imagine the World Without Her. I will say that I enjoyed the movie. D’Souza begins with elaborating on the 4-5 big arguments that America Haters (my words, not his) use to come against the US. He says that all these views came about separately, but have come together in our time to make it seem like the US is one evil empire. He then tears down all the arguments with facts and historical evidence. It is amazing how many of the things people take as fact, are not. Just because some professor writes a book, it doesn’t make it fact. However, some of these revisionist and America Haters have a direct route into the schools and psyche of unknowing Americans. D’Souza’s book and movie combat this false information. I can say that when the movie comes out on DVD, that I will sit the whole family down to watch it.
In watching the movie, D’Souza talks about Alexis de Tocqueville, a Frenchman who traveled the US in the 1800’s and published two volumes, Democracy in America – Volume 1 and Volume 2, published in 1835. He wrote the book so that the French could understand America’s new democracy. But in doing so, he wrote about his observations and shared, for all history to know, how America was so different than any other nation on earth till that time.
Today I decided to look up de Tocqueville’s book on Amazon and found it to be free. I wanted to pass it along. If you don’t have a Kindle, or at least a tablet, you can purchase the book on Amazon as well.
Democracy in America – Volume 1 – Kindle – Free
Democracy in America – Volume 2 – Kindle – Free
Democracy in America – Purchase the Book
And if you get a chance and find that D’Souza’s movie is playing in your city, got check it out.
